On Wednesday, July 11, and on Friday, July 13, the Kevin Sutton Show brings you a double-header of sorts as we spend both shows talking with the competitors from the Red Bull Wake Open, taking place July 13 and 14 at the Tampa Convention Center.
“Wakeboarders from eight countries will head to Tampa on the most innovative playing field to date for the sport of wakeboarding,” says the press release. And a quick peek of the line-up says “absolutely.”
The list includes: Shane Bonifay, Harley Clifford, Nick Davies, Raphael Derome, Olivier Derome, Adam Errington, Clay Fletcher , Tom Fooshee, Dominik Guehrs, Danny Harf, Randall Harris, Kevin Henshaw, Dominik Hernler, Cody Johnson, Steel Lafferty, Jimmy LaRiche, Keith Lidberg, Rusty Malinoski, Shaun Murray, Chris O’shea, Nate Perry, Brenton Priestly, Aaron Rathy, Brian Reeder, Marc Rossiter, Erik Ruck, Chad Sharpe, Dean Smith, Phil Soven, Bob Soven, Kaesen Suyderhoud, Shota Tezuka, Nico Von Lerchenfeld, Shawn Watson and JD Webb.
“Riders will use the new Sesitec System 2.0 to be pulled through a water terrain park in front of the convention center for the Park and Big Air portion of the competition, say the organizers. “Launching off a single 50-Foot ramp, riders will pull the best tricks they can in the air.”
They claim that the “environmentally friendly system” will allow competitors to hit speeds up to 38mph in short distances. That should raise the stakes a bit, no?
Can’t make it to Tampa? Peep the Red Bull Wake Open Live on Saturday, July 14, at 1 p.m. on NBC as part of the “Red Bull Signature Series,” the most progressive and innovative wakeboarding, surfing, mountain biking, freestyle motocross and snowboarding events, showcased on custom courses from the inspiration of the athletes themselves.
We can’t wait to get into it with these soaked sensations.
